Why does swelling and bruising occur? When is the peak?

How much difference does ultrasonic bone cutting (piezotome) make?
Within the first week, results consistently show clear reduction. An analysis of 554 people including 9 randomized trials found that piezotomes significantly reduced swelling, bruising, and pain compared to conventional methods, with less mucosal injury, though surgical time was similar[1].
An analysis of 12 trials comparing 292 piezotome patients to 338 conventional-method patients also showed piezotomes reduced swelling at days 2 and 7, bruising at days 2, 4, and 7, and pain-medication requirements, with no difference in bleeding[2]. Tears overflow and eyes feel watery. Is this also from swelling?

Are there problems that appear after swelling subsides?

Known sequelae of over-reduction include deepened nasal root, saddle deformity, inverted-V deformity, and polly-beak deformity with elevation at the nasal tip[6].
