What is a hump nose?
A hump nose (hump nose・Hump Nose) refers to a condition where there is a bony or cartilaginous hump (protrusion) on the nasal bridge (nasal line). The location, size, and composition of the hump are evaluated preoperatively, and the amount of removal is planned.
Surgical method
Hump removal is primarily performed via "endonasal incision (closed approach)" or "columellar incision (open approach)". For bony humps, bone chisels (osteotome)・rasps (bone files)・and microsaws are used, and for cartilaginous humps, removal is performed with a scalpel or scissors. After removing a large hump, lateral osteotomy (bone-narrowing osteotomy) is often performed simultaneously to prevent "Open Roof" deformity.
Downtime estimate
Because bone is being manipulated, postoperative swelling and bruising are relatively significant. Taping and plaster immobilization are needed for 1–2 weeks, and it takes approximately 2–3 weeks for major swelling to subside. The final profile typically stabilizes around 3–6 months postoperatively (individual variation).
