What is Moist Shot

Moist Shot is a skin booster treatment in which two active ingredients—hyaluronic acid (HA) and PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide)—are injected intradermally and subdermally. Its defining feature is that it goes beyond a simple "hydration injection": it simultaneously reconstructs moisturizing function and promotes tissue regeneration at the cellular level within the dermal layer. True to the term "skin nurturing," this approach cultivates the skin's inherent water-retention capacity and self-recovery abilities from within.

Two Active Ingredients and Scientific Evidence

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) — Restoring the Dermis's Water-Retention Capacity

Hyaluronic acid is a biopolymer capable of retaining approximately 6 liters of water per gram. With age, HA content within the dermis declines markedly, leading to loss of skin elasticity, turgor, and suppleness—a process detailed in a 2012 review in Dermato-endocrinology (DOI: 10.4161/derm.21923). The HA formulation used in Moist Shot is non-cross-linked and low-concentration, making it easily dispersed uniformly throughout the dermis. After injection, it is expected to promptly stimulate existing HA production systems and promote endogenous HA synthesis.

PDRN (Polydeoxyribonucleotide) — Tissue Regeneration and Anti-Inflammatory Action

PDRN is a polynucleotide preparation derived from the purified and fragmented DNA of salmon-family fish sperm. According to Frontiers in Pharmacology (2017, DOI: 10.3389/fphar.2017.00224), PDRN exerts three pharmacological actions—tissue repair, anti-ischemia, and anti-inflammation—primarily through adenosine A2A receptor activation. Furthermore, research in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (2016, DOI: 10.3390/ijms17091448) has confirmed that PDRN promotes neocollagenesis (new collagen production) in photoaged skin while suppressing melanin synthesis, thereby contributing to the improvement of age spots and dullness.

Treatment Procedure

Following a consultation to assess skin condition and concerns, cleansing and anesthetic cream application (approximately 20–30 minutes) are performed. A fine needle is then used to inject the HA + PDRN mixture evenly across the entire face or specific areas of concern. Injection depth centers on the intradermal to superficial subcutaneous layer, with the injection portion of the treatment itself lasting 15–30 minutes. Cooling is applied post-treatment to conclude the session. The recommended frequency is monthly for 3–4 sessions as an intensive phase, followed by maintenance every 2–3 months.

Downtime and Side Effects

Pinpoint bruising and redness from the injection needle may appear for several days to one week. Swelling is typically mild, peaking on the day of treatment to the following day, and most patients can cover residual effects with makeup from the day after onward. Serious adverse effects such as infection or nodule formation are extremely rare; however, for 1–2 weeks post-treatment, avoid vigorous rubbing of the treated area, excessive alcohol consumption, strenuous exercise, and hot baths. Makeup on the day of treatment is generally not recommended, but normal application is permitted from the following day onward.

Expected Results and Course of Improvement

Many patients notice improved skin plumpness and radiance immediately after treatment, with the peak of skin quality improvement from new collagen formation occurring 2–4 weeks post-treatment. The HA component is typically absorbed gradually over 3–6 months; however, the dermis-improving effects from PDRN (new blood vessel formation and fibroblast activation) are believed to persist for a longer period. Multiple treatment sessions are expected to boost the skin's self-renewal cycle (turnover).
