PicoSure is the world's first picosecond laser developed.
PicoSure is an innovative laser that can irradiate in an extremely short time compared to conventional nanosecond lasers, producing minimal heat and leaving little damage. It has obtained FDA approval in the United States across many fields including "age spots," "wrinkles," "acne scars," and "tattoo (removal)."
※"Pico" refers to the time duration of the laser light being irradiated.
It is possible to irradiate at 1/1000th the speed of conventional nanosecond lasers.
Features
Safety and security have improved dramatically
Because the picosecond laser irradiates in an extremely short time compared to nanosecond lasers, there is minimal heat effect on the skin surface and less damage to surrounding tissues. The pigment at the targeted site can be pulverized far more finely by shockwave compared to conventional laser treatment. This is a mechanism that breaks down pigment while reducing the risk of tissue damage, and also makes bleeding and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation less likely to occur. Additionally, because it uses a 755nm wavelength, compared to other 1064nm picosecond lasers, it achieves a high melanin absorption rate and low hemoglobin absorption rate, making it possible to expect high efficacy even with low energy.
Picotoning (broad-area dullness, age spots, melasma)
The 755nm energy diffracted in a honeycomb pattern is divided into high-energy zones and low-energy areas. High-energy irradiation accounts for less than 10% of the area, while the surrounding area is affected by low-energy full-fluence. This minimizes the range of damage caused by heat effects.
Picotoning (broad-area dullness, age spots, melasma)
Picotoning irradiation is a treatment that breaks down and expels melanin pigment through picosecond laser irradiation. Compared to conventional laser toning, high therapeutic effects can be expected with fewer treatment sessions. Because heat effects are minimal and the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is reduced, it is a skin-beautifying treatment that places light stress on the skin and shortens downtime.
Picofractional (skin rejuvenation, pores, wrinkles, acne scars)
This is a treatment using a handpiece for fractional irradiation (focused irradiation). It promotes active collagen proliferation and elastin regeneration, allowing for skin quality improvement (wrinkles, acne scars, enlarged pores, etc.), bringing about anti-aging care effects such as improvement of fine lines and increased skin firmness. Conventional CO2 fractional lasers create tiny holes on the skin surface to regenerate skin, leaving damage more easily and requiring 5–7 days of downtime. Picofractional can reduce downtime to just around 24 hours.
Picospotting (age spot removal)
Picospotting is ideal for treating age spots caused by ultraviolet rays (solar lentigines) where other irradiation methods are less effective, as well as moles, birthmarks, and acne scars through pinpoint laser irradiation. Improvement of thin age spots that are difficult with light therapy can also be expected. Because melanin destruction leaves surrounding skin unharmed, it is characterized by low likelihood of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

FAQ
What concerns can PicoSure address?
It addresses a wide range of concerns including age spots, freckles, melasma, dullness, enlarged pores, acne scars (pigmentation), and tattoo removal. The approach differs depending on the irradiation mode—"Picotoning" for broad-area dullness and melasma, "Picospotting" for spot age spot removal, and "Picofractional" for pore and acne scar texture improvement are used selectively. During consultation, we examine your skin condition and propose the optimal mode.
ZetithAIに続けて聞く →How does it differ from conventional lasers (Q-switched lasers, etc.)?
The biggest difference is the shortness of the pulse width (irradiation time). Conventional Q-switched lasers operated on a nanosecond (one-billionth of a second) timescale, while PicoSure operates on a picosecond (one-trillionth of a second) timescale. This results in minimal heat damage and breaks down pigment particles more finely, so it is effective even on age spots and residual tattoos that were difficult to treat with conventional equipment. Additionally, because damage to normal skin tissue is reduced, post-treatment pigmentation (PIH) risk is also lower.
ZetithAIに続けて聞く →How much downtime is there after treatment?
It varies by mode. Picotoning produces only mild redness immediately after irradiation, and most people can apply makeup the same day. Picospotting forms a thin scab (eschar) on the age spot area, which naturally peels off in 1–2 weeks. Picofractional may show redness and pinpoint minor bleeding for several days, but usually settles within about a week. In all cases, strict sun protection after treatment minimizes the occurrence of PIH.
ZetithAIに続けて聞く →How many sessions until results are visible? Please also explain the booking method.
It varies depending on the type of concern and skin condition, but for Picotoning to improve melasma and dullness, a guideline is once per month for 5–10 sessions, and many people see results from age spot removal (Picospotting) in 1–3 sessions. Picofractional for pores and acne scars is recommended as a 3–5 session course. Since there are individual differences, we will propose the number of sessions suited to your skin condition during consultation. Please book via LINE or by phone.
