However, emotionally charged reviews alone cannot accurately convey the true magnitude of risks or their underlying causes. Based on multiple clinical studies published in internationally peer-reviewed medical journals, this article presents data on the actual rates of complications, revisions, infections, and patient satisfaction in rhinoplasty. Understanding the risks accurately is the first step toward making a decision you won't regret.

1. Breakdown of Complications and Dissatisfaction——What Leads to "Regret"

A retrospective study by Javidi et al. (2023), which analyzed 117 patients who reported dissatisfaction following rhinoplasty over a 10-year period (published in Maxillofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, DOI: 10.1186/s40902-022-00369-z), showed that sources of dissatisfaction fall broadly into functional and aesthetic categories.

The most common functional complaint was breathing difficulty (36.8%, 43 patients), meaning more than one-third of all dissatisfied patients reported feeling that breathing had become harder after surgery. Among aesthetic concerns, dissatisfaction with the overall shape of the nose (34.2%, 40 patients) was the most frequent, followed by nostril asymmetry (29.1%, 34 patients), nasal tip deformity (23.9%, 28 patients), and skin deformity due to scarring (23.1%, 27 patients). Regarding the timing of dissatisfaction, 30.8% of patients (36 individuals) reported concerns within 6 months of surgery, confirming that early-onset dissatisfaction occurs in a non-negligible proportion of cases.
